We’re not talking about such action movies as “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull †— with its endless trek through the desert and over treacherous mountains.
We’re talking about live action. And this live action showcases the talents of local community theaters with their vast selection of staged productions and seasoned actors and production crews.
If you’re considering viewing the movie about a bulky green guy who spends about 90 minutes stomping in anger (“The Incredible Hulk†opens June 13), then consider Amish Acres’ “Music Man.â€
This production features a slick-talking salesman, Harold Hill, who evolves into a kind of hero the folks in River City, Iowa, come to love.
Derek Martin will portray Hill in this musical version that will have the salesman dancing across the stage as “Seventy-Six Trombones†echoes through the intimate theater.
“The Music Man†opens June 10 and continues through July 13 at the Round Barn Theatre, Amish Acres, Nappanee. And if members of your family have an appetite as big as Bruce Banner (the Hulk) with his radiation-gamma-altered body, Amish Acres has themed dinners and Amish-style meals guaranteed to tame any hunger.
Those in the mood for a romantic evening might be waiting for the opening of the film “Mamma Mia!†But why wait until July 18 to see young folks struggle with issues of marriage when you can take in “Romeo and Juliet,†July 8-20 at the Barn Theatre in Augusta, Mich.? After you see the original at the Barn, watch South Bend Civic Theatre update the story Aug. 1-17 with “West Side Story.â€
